Sedation: introduction

Relax Through Your Next Dental Appointment!

Modern dentistry is gentler than ever before. However, many people are apprehensive about going to the dentist. There are several reasons that one may feel anxious. Some people have a low threshold for pain, and some people fear needles. Others just fear going to the dentist, period.

Whatever your source of anxiety, Dr. Sidney Brooks’ sedation dentistry can help. Conscious sedation dentistry places you in a relaxed state of complete sedation. This means you’ll have little or no memory of having any dental work done. Furthermore, you’ll have minimal, if any, pain or discomfort. This makes conscious sedation dentistry an easy, safe and effective way to provide patients with dental phobia the dentistry they need to keep their teeth healthy and beautiful.

Here’s How Conscious Sedation Dentistry Works.

It’s really quite simple. By taking a small pill an hour before your appointment, you will already be relaxed by the time you arrive at Sandhills Pediatric & Family Dentistry. Since you’ll be too sedated to drive yourself, you must be accompanied to and from your appointment by a friend or family member. You will be seated in a comfortable chair and covered with a warm blanket. Depending on your need, we will administer more sedation. Before starting your dental care, we will make sure you are completely comfortable.

You may be sedated for a short or a long visit depending on your specific dental treatment plan. For example, if you have a lot of dental work that needs to be completed, conscious sedation dentistry allows us to complete your dental treatment that would normally require five or more visits to be accomplished in as little as one. This makes conscious sedation dentistry an easy and effective way to provide patients who have dental phobia with the dental care they need to keep their teeth healthy and beautiful! Oral sedation is very safe. One of our team members will be with you the entire time. Your vital signs will be monitored by equipment similar to that used in a hospital setting. Please feel free to give us a call for more information on conscious sedation.

Sedation Dentistry

Conscious sedation is not only for people that fear going to the dentist. Anybody can experience the benefits of conscious sedation. Sedation allows patients to have more dental treatment completed in a single appointment. Often treatment that would require several appointments can be performed in one single appointment. This means fewer interruptions to your daily life.
